I resided at 1648 W 1st,Meridian growing up , I earned money on many local farms bucking hay. I actually bucked hay on the ground that I have owned since 1977, Lot 6, Blk1, Sky View Ranchettes 2 on El Gato Lane. My wife grew up on a dairy farm at 5925 W. Franklin Rd. which converted to row cropping in the 70's and is still owned by the Asumendi Family today. To say the least we have seen and experienced many changes to the community over the years. We are not ant-growth as long as it meets the needs of the area surrounding it. In our opinion rezoning the majority of Sky View Ranchettes1 and 2 on El Gato Lane to industrial does not make sense. You have St. James Place directly west of El Gato off of Mc Dermott on the canyon county side which is also 5 acre parcels. Directly behind it is the proposed I-16 connector. The land from the Purdam drain to I-84 makes perfect sense to be rezoned industrial as it is agricultural ground surrounding the new I -16 connector and the railroad spur. It is in the direct path of the direction that industrial and commercial is taking from Ten Mile Road west to Star Road which fits in with Nampa's path of development. El Gato has also experienced changes with older homes being sold to younger couples, new homes being built to replace older ones, etc. Many of the new residents have stated that they chose to live on El Gato due to its rural setting and the current life style of all the residents residing there. They have all stated that they would not have purchased their homes had they known that the future proposal wants to change it to industrial. Meridian prides itself in being a pro family community. This being said El Gato should be retained as low residential development when the city annexes it in. Sincerely, Robert and Patty Dennis
