Subject: Proposed Development on Linder & Amity
I am writing to voice my concerns about the proposed subdivision on Linder road
between Amity and Victory roads. My wife and I moved to this neighborhood 5 years
ago as it is one of the few areas left in Meridian that would allow us to build horse
property. We are both from small communities in Idaho, but have lived in the Treasure
Valley for over 17 years. We have loved the available amenities while still being able to
have horse property and keep the “small town” feel. Unfortunately, this dream is
quickly being taken away from us and many of our friends as the rural property is being
converted to subdivisions.
We work hard for what we have and chose to invest what we have earned into this
home and property. We knew the taxes would be high, but were willing to pay it since
2
the area gave us the opportunity for this dream. We did not buy a pre-built horse
property. We designed the house, put in irrigation, planted pasture, and welded the
horse fence by ourselves. I understand there is significant growth in the valley and it is
not our intention to deny others the opportunity to enjoy this community as well, but I
am concerned that the impact of these new subdivisions on the surrounding homes is
not fully appreciated.
The best example of this is a proposed road through the middle of our property that
would separate our home from our horses. I have attached the proposed map for the
subdivision and outlined our property in blue with the road marked in red. As you can
see, the road would require us, including my young daughters, to cross this road in
order to feed or ride our horses. The added traffic will also add extra stress to the
horses as they already avoid getting close to Amity road during times of high
traffic. This adds an unnecessary risk to me and my family in addition to disrupting our
agricultural lifestyle. I would greatly appreciate you to reconsider the placement of this
road, or decrease the density of the subdivision so the road is not necessary, thus
decreasing the impact on the surrounding properties.
There are many other concerns with the subdivision besides this road including lack of
open space, no transition from the rural property to the higher density housing, very
little to no setbacks or landscaping, and others. We are hoping to work with you as the
developers, as well as with planning and zoning and the city council, to try and amend
the problems, but ask that you consider the pre-existing homes and neighborhoods in a
future plan for the subdivision to better accommodate all involved.
Sincerely,
Scott Ward
