HomeMy WebLinkAboutLetter from Sheri & Jason Hon April 7, 2005 RECEIVED APR 1 1 2005 CITY OF MERIDIAN CITY CLERK OF1=I(',F Meridian City Council Meridian City Hall 33 East Idaho Avenue Meridian, ID 83642 RE: AppUcation MI 05-001 To whom it may concem: We are writing in response to application MI 05-001, the proposal to construct a golf course maintenance equipment storage and repair shop for Cherry Lane Golf Course generally located east of North Black Cat Road and north of West Cherry Lane. We strongly oppose the wnstruction of this building at the proposed location. We oppose the construCtion of this building at the proposed location because it will lower the value of our home and the other homes along our street, Dawson Drive. One of the main reasons we chose this location to build our home was the beautiful view of the golf course and the driving range pond across the street. The construction of this building would obstruct that view and leave us with the undesirable view of a commercial maintenance shop. This will hurt our resale value. Our home and the homes in our neighborhood are part of the Ashford Greens subdivision. As part of the subdivision, we have certain standards of architecture that we were required to meet in the construction of our home. We also have certain standards of landscaping that we were required to meet in the landscaping of our yards. We have all invested thousands of dollars meeting these requirements. It doesn't seem right that those efforts to keep our subdivision beautiful will be thwarted by the construction of a utility- type metal shed directly across the street from our homes. The house next door to our own home is currently for sale. Who will be willing to pay $300,000 for a home that is directly across the street from a metal utility-type shed? A large part of the value of that home is the lovely view of the golf course and driving range pond. If that view is obstructed, the realtor will be forced to greatly reduce the price of the house, thereby resulting in a monumental loss to the builder We would suggest the construction of this building at an alternate location; in the parking lot of the Cherry Lane Golf Course club house. We have spoken to the associates at Cherry Lane Golf Course, and they informed us that they also oppose the construction of the building at the proposed location. They informed us that there is another location that has been proposed for the construction of this building. The alternate proposed location is in the parking lot of the Cherry Lane Golf Course club house. The alternate location, the club house parking lot is an ideal location for the construction of this building. The parking lot is adjacent to the club house, which would provide much convenience. It would be more convenient and more logical to have the proposed equipment storage and repair shop located on a paved parking lot than it would be to have it located on a lovely grassy area as proposed. Constructing the building in the parking lot will not cause problems with available parking space as the parking lot is never even half-way full of vehicles. Furthermore, there is a large area of dirt between the parking lot and the clubhouse which is not designated parking, and could be used as additional parking or as the site for the building itself. The associates at the Cherry Lane Golf Course also informed us that one of the reasons they oppose having the said building constructed at the current proposed location is because they have plans to install additional landscaping and beautify that area and make it an area where they could host lovely outdoor garden receptions, parties, and events of that nature. This would bring in additional revenue for the Cherry Lane Golf Course. Also, it would be a great addition for Meridian Commerce, bringing a myriad of i:önslnners to Meridian as well as the prestige of hosting important social events in the community. We understand that you have a difficult decision with many factors to evaluate. We strongly urge you to consider our suggestion of constructing the proposed building in the parking lot rather than at the current proposed location. Thank you for your consideration. If you have any questions or concerns, we would be happy to assist you. Please call us at 288-1117. Sincerely, Sheri and Jason Honn 4226 W. Dawson Dr. Meridian, ID 83642 (208) 288-1117
