clients.
So do I just print the form and fill it out, sign it and then mail it to the city of
meridian?

Hello Lori,
I am happy to provide you with some information about starting a
business in your home in Meridian. For the Planning and Zoning aspect,
Meridian currently differentiates between businesses that have clients
or customers come to the house such as a hair salon or photography

studio, versus a business that does not have visitors, for example, a
software engineer that works entirely on line.
lf your business will have clients coming to the residence, the
approval of an accessory use permit is required. An application and
checklist of requirements are available online at

begins with a neighborhood meeting. A notice of the intent to operate
the business and explanation of the business must be mailed to the
neighbors within 100 feet of the property; Meridian Planning
Department can provide this list of property owners on request. Once
the neighborhood meeting is held, the Planning Department can accept
the application materials. Staff reviews the application materials to
make sure they meet current City Code and the Director issues a letter
of decision. The Planning Department also send out a notice to the
neighbors within 100 feet with the decision, either to approve or deny
the permit. The neighbors have fifteen days to file for a review of the
decision by City Council. Without an appeal, the decision is final after 15
days. The accessory use permit has a fee of S160.
lf your home business will not have clients or customers coming
to the home, a signed form can simply be submitted to the City stating
that the business owner understands the requirements for operating a
home business. These requirements are listed on the attached form.
There is no fee in this case.
Please feel free to contact us with any questions.
Tha nk you,
