To the Honorable Mayor de Weerd and the Meridian City Council,
I do not support the proposal made by Michael Murgoitio concerning his industrial
composting proposal for the following reasons:
1. His neighbors are highly concerned by the proposed changed in his operation
and its costs to their daily lives and way of living.
a. When Mr. Murgoitio is done for the day, he can leave the area and go
home. For his neighbors, they cannot leave the area because they are
home.
2. Despite the testimony of his paid presenters, this is an industrial operation.
a. If the Department of Environmental Quality and the Environmental
Protection may be called in to monitor this operation, it is industrial with a
potential environmental cost.
3. There is potential toxicity to the air.
a. When the Murgoitio trucks go to the Ada County landfill for wood for their
composting needs, do they monitor and test the wood they take for lead
and other poisons?
i. The Ada County landfill will take wood that may have lead paint.
ii. This should add further concern for Timber Creek’s neighbors and
anyone using this compost.
4. Meridian’s own City planners have not supported this proposal.
5. There is other land within Ada County where this sort of operation would not
impact others.
I do support your reconsideration of this proposal. It is a bad deal.
