Linder Village /Bergman Rd access
Dear Mayor Tammy and Meridian City council members,
Here we are again with another public hearing on Linder Village tomorrow night 12/18.
We live in Paramount abc have for 9 years. We support a Linder Village, but not one that
puts our kids safety in jeopardy!
We would ask just two things of city council, which would be neither difficult nor
prohibitively expensive to implement:
1. Please consider the safety of Paramount residents and our children who are playing on and
around Bergman. Our home located at 1065 W Barrymore Dr in the paramount sub and our
home is located RIGHT next to the Bergman road.
My kids are 9 and 6 and they along with several other kids on Barrymore/ Bergman play
every day with their bikes and basketballs near this road. Please, please Eliminate any direct
access to Linder Village from the heart of our neighborhood. Bergman is a narrow road- in
Fact so narrow that if a car parks on the side of our house on Bergman - it almost becomes a
one lane street. Bergman is NOT a McMillan, Linder or a ustick that was designed for traffic
and cars. This is a neighborhood side street! ! !
Sadly-- What is currently planned with a cut through on Bergman Avenue, will encourage
cut -through traffic through our local Paramount streets by drivers trying to avoid the
congested main roads.
If you absolutely must allow this (which is wrong to begin withQGG, then at least at a
minimum you must mandate and require the developer to be responsible for effective traffic -
calming measures, not just in the parcel under development or a "jog" in the road. We need
actual Roundabouts, speed bumps, speed humps or raised crosswalks that slow speeds to 5-10
mph. We can not have it be a straight shot through where they can speed through at the risk
of injury or worse for our residents and kids. Please please do this and demand and require
this for the Meridian kids who have lived in Paramount all their lives who have grown up
here and still have lots of years to grow up in this neighborhood we live in.
Additionally, There is an elementary school within Paramount neighborhood and kids are walking along
Cayuse creek, Bergman and Barrymore every single school day- twice a day. A lot of these kids are
between 6-10 years old and some are walking or biking alone to school. Please do not allow our quiet
subdivision to be a cut through for someone living in Lochsa falls or Bridgetower to fly through Paramount
in order to save 5 minutes getting to Winco. We are very concerned during the school days - as the amount
of kids on these streets is so many!! Talk to the school, teachers and principal and they will tell you how
many elementary age kids walk or bike home within Paramount from school every day (twice a day). This is
a real concern for the young Meridian residents - not just a frivolous complaint!
At the ACHD meeting held last week they discussed traffic calming measures on Bergman and heard lots of
testimony regarding safety that demands it. We took time off work to attend since it was held at noon.
GHowever, in the final report, all that was mentioned was a possible "jog" in the road. Hello!! Out of all of
that - we got a jog in the road? That's W! We need a LOT more than one jog in the road. We need speed
calming measures that actually slow speeds- speed bumps , and round abouts where they have no choice but
to slow down on Bergman heading into the village.
Please withhold any final approvals until developer DMG has a completed deal with Brighton
to acquire property for the new collector road. Not an "agreement in principle." Signed,
sealed, and delivered, please! We do not trust DMG to actually do the things that they are
told to do.
2. Please consider the quality of life of Paramount residents. Make these decisions like YOU
yourself live in our subdivision. WinCo demands it be allowed to operate 24/7 and take
deliveries whenever they want. That is simply unfair to our quality of life. Other nearby
businesses have been denied this request, as you well know. Walgreens was told no to
24/7, Walmart at Ten Mile was told no. So Why should WinCo expect this special
treatment this close to a residential area??? We personally don't care if someone needs a loaf
of bread at 2 am. But please require, at the very least, that WinCo receive no deliveries at
all between 10:00 pm and 6:00 am. And no idling trucks during this time either! There is no
noise barrier yet invented that will block those beeping horns and sounds of breaks squealing.
Please- we love our home in Paramount and have lived here for 9 years. We don't want to
move in order to keep our kids safe and be able to sleep at night.
Thank you for your consideration and Happy Holidays,
Andrew and Erin Ebright
