Greg,
I wanted to offer a quick explanation of the public hearing process - the City is very interested in allowing any who
wish to provide testimony the opportunity to do so. As you may recall, the names of those who indicated they
wanted to provide testimony on the signup sheet (iPad) were read aloud and invited up to the podium to address
the Council. At the conclusion of that part of the process, the Mayor asked if there was anyone whose name was not
read aloud that would like the opportunity to provide testimony. Several in the room raised their hands and the
Mayor invited them up one-by-one to offer their testimony. This is consistent with any public hearing that is held. It
is not required that someone sign up using the iPad or online in order to provide te stimony. We use the signup sheet
so we can efficiently invite those wishing to testify up to the podium but we always ask if there are those that did
not sign up or whose names were not called if they would like to provide testimony as well.
As Councilmember Borton stated below, this hearing was continued to October 23 to give the school district and our
staff time to work through conditions and come back to City Council with an updated presentation and request. The
public hearing will then follow this same process; inviting those who wish to testify up to the podium. In addition,
your email will be placed into the public record as written testimony on this project.
Let us know if you have any other questions.
Thanks,
C.Jay Coles

Greg,
Thank you for sharing your opinion on the process. The meeting gave everybody who was there an equal
opportunity and time to speak, applying the same rules that we apply to all land use hearings. As you know it was
2
continued to Oct 23 at which time the same rules will apply. However, because it is still an active application, the
mayor and our council are not able to discuss anything outside of that public hearing process.
Sincerely,
Joe Borton

speak. I am a parent and a concerned member of the community. I did not sign up to speak, but when open
testimony started, I would have liked to speak. I feel like opportunities were only given to the loudest and most
visual, including a second opportunity to a gentleman around 10 PM. It was at that time I made the choice to leave. I
don't think it was run in a manner that was a true public hearing.
