I would urge the Council to approve the high school with the contingency that a public road be built and paved up to Mcmillan. That would address the biggest concern over access and appease Planning and Zoning as well as representatives from police and fire. I do not believe that an issue like that should kill the entire project. Let’s work together and fix the small issue. Regarding the other developers who are adjacent to the property, I would insist that they split the cost 50/50 of any other access roads the school district is legally bound to help with. Other than that, I would say that developers buy land knowing that there is risk involved and knowing they may need to improve that land. I appreciate West Ada being fiscally responsible and trying to purchase land that is inexpensive. We have a duty to try to make this work. I’m sure that another property in another area would be significantly more expensive, plus unduly delay this needed high school. And yes, contrary to what the planning and zoning committee said, cost does matter to all of us who are paying the bill. I see my taxes go up every year. If there’s a way for the taxes to go up by less and get the same outcome, we need to work together to come up with a solution. I submit that the council approve this high school with the contingency that West Ada County build an access road up to McMillan. A no vote significantly delays the new high school that is needed now and will result in my taxes increasing as a new piece of property would then need to be purchased. We do have a link to the video of the meeting should you wish to watch the discussion. I would encourage you to watch the complete hearing, but if you are interested in the wrap/up discussions, that starts around 1 hour and 10 minutes in the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ig5tzu99J_4 Robert Simison | Chief of Staff City of Meridian | Mayor’s Office All e-mail messages sent to or received by City of Meridian e-mail accounts are subject to the Idaho law, in regards to both release and retention, and may be released upon request, unless exempt from disclosure by law. Looks like the last meeting minutes are from August. I was wondering if you have a link for the minutes were they talked about the new high school and why they denied that application. Thanks.
