Subject: Owyhee High School
Dear Meridian City Council,
As a parent of a current student in West Ada (Meridian High School) with 4 other students who have
graduated, as well as a property owner in Meridian I was very disappointed, concerned and frankly shocked
to hear Meridian City Council did not approve the proposal to build Owyhee High School.
As a parent and a citizen, I understand schools and roads are not areas controlled by the city because of other
organizations throughout the state but what you can control and support are our citizens. The citizens of
Meridian voted YES to build a new high school with the understanding it will be at Ustick & McDermott.
Watching sub divisions go up and up and up it is only a matter of (short) time ALL of the existing schools in
our community will be overcrowded. There are plenty of studies which show how this is detrimental to the
education successes of our students. As an executive officer of the Idaho PTA, I am well aware of the
shortfalls of overcrowding and can provide you resources upon request.
I am honored to be a citizen of a city that makes top 10 places to live based on our services, community and
schools. Please do the right thing for the citizens of our community and vote YES to approve the building of
the Owhyee High School. We have entrusted you to represent the citizens of our city and our citizens voted
YES for the high school. Please vote YES because it what our community wants for our city and from our
city council.
