Subject: Owyhee High School Consideration
Dear Meridian City Council,
My name is Destiny Turner and I am a paraprofessional at Mountain View High School. Not only do I work
here but I graduated high school from here in 2013. I’ve been able to see the school grow as a student and a
professional and I’ve loved every minute of it. While I don’t like to say I’ve had any complaints with
Mountain View, the overcrowding has been a huge problem. For those who do not know, a paraprofessional
works with students in the special education program. I’ve seen how my students are impacted by
overcrowding. Walking down the hallways and classrooms with large amounts of students are a huge trigger
for students like mine. We accommodate them as best as possible and I am proud of the work we put in to
giving these students the best possibilities, but they still find difficulties in these every day tasks. We are
lucky to be getting an expansion to our school in 2019 and it will pay off in huge dividends, but now the
Meridian Planning and Zoning Commission recommended denial to build the new Owyhee High School in
2020. This high school is mandatory with the growth our state has had these last few years and are going to
continue to have. Rocky Mountain and Eagle High school are experiencing the same overcrowding issues
with their students. With this new school issues that were described above would be relieved for students
like mine. This decision that has been given to your council is a big one, but the reward will be plentiful for
students of all kind.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
