I will not be able to attend, but would like the written comments, in the records. Thank you. I have lived in this valley since 1956, and have never witnessed the growth that is occurring now. The West Ada School District, which I live in and pay taxes to, is trying to stay ahead of this growth for obvious reasons. This growth is definitely affecting the crowding of this area's schools. You can not control growth by denying schools! Pass the necessary requirements for the Owyhee School to be built at the District's chosen location! The location will cause an undue burden on the current infrastructure located in that area as it is a rural farming area that is not developed for the size of impact that will be thrust upon it. 2. The school board has acted completely contrary to conventional planning wisdom in terms of purchasing, and then simply expecting automatic approval, of property for schools instead of working with cities on where the city would like the school. 3. Rate of growth in this particular area would not suggest it prudent to build the school here as cost of providing services here would be an undue expenditure for the city that would not see a return for the city for some time. I will say that one thing that completely annoys me in terms of the school boards tactics is the fear campaign that they engage in when going after something they want; the email they have sent out implies 2 that Meridian has said no to any new school necessitating parental support for approval of the suggested location. Anytime that the school board desires anything, they count on the lack of information seeking from the general public to disseminate fear; the email they sent seeking support for the denied location implies that if the school is not placed there, it will not be built anywhere leading to overcrowding. As I understand it, P&Z simply want the school built in a location that makes more sense for the growth that Meridian has laid out. Please do not let the mantra "Do it for the children" dissuade you from doing what makes sense; what makes sense is good for the children. Above all, Meridian has always impressed me with its logical application of growth and decision making. Please do not acquiesce to the school boards misinformation campaign; require a more logical location to build this new high school. Even though the school board should be directed by parental wishes, it would seem that they feel as though they can just do as they please as long as they continue to fear monger the uninformed. I hope to make the meeting, but just in case... these are my thoughts on this subject. Cory L. Thacker 208-965-5164 1.
