Subject: Owyhee High School
To whom it may concern:
Good evening. My name is Gina McCarroll and I teach American Government and AP American Government at Rocky
Mountain High School. As of this year, we are overcrowded with approximately 33-35 students per class. Our
freshman classes just continue to grow! I worry that when this years’ juniors are seniors next year, they will have to
add more portables outside to accommodate all students.
As of right now, we are over capacity and have 8 portables. As a former portable teacher, I know that portable
teaching is not the best option for us. I was isolated and felt like I wasn’t part of the culture at Rocky Mountain High
School. Our students did not get the same great access to the building either making them feel isolated. When
students had to go to the restroom they missed at least 10 minutes of class time due to the walk, making bathroom
breaks very inconvenience for students and teachers. Additionally, Rocky Mountain does not have the space for
more portables. If we keep adding portables then we are taking away a practice field for Rugby and youth sports!
I urge Meridian’s City Council to reconsider this proposal of denial by the planning and zoning committee because
our growing city has to have a safe space where our students can learn, thrive and goes to become successful
members of or community!
Thank you for taking the time to listen and please take this letter into consideration.
Sincerely,
Gina McCarroll
