Subject:FW: Owyhee High School Denied by Meridian P and Z: Corrected email contact
Good morning,
I received the email below from the West Ada School district this morning. It is not clear why they either forgot or
purposely avoided the P&Z process for their new school siting, but I strongly urge you to reject their appeal until
such time they have worked with P&Z to correct the issues that P&Z have with the project. Do not turn your back on
your appointed P&Z volunteers who are doing what you’ve charged them to do and do not allow this type of
intimidation by the School District. They are not exempt and need to follow all the rules everyone else does in
getting a project approved for construction.
Thank you for your service!

A message from WEST ADA SCHOOL DISTRICT
Greetings:
Yesterday's message regarding Owyhee High School and Meridian Planning and Zoning's decision to reject
West Ada's application to build the new high school included an incorrect email address
(cjcoles@meridiancity.org). The corrected link is below.
Meridian Planning and Zoning Recommends Denying Application to Build
Owyhee High School
th
On September 6, the Meridian Planning and Zoning Commission recommended denial of West Ada’s application to annex the
Owyhee High School site into the City of Meridian and to grant a conditional use permit to build the Owyhee High school.
West Ada’s application to build Owyhee High School now goes before the Meridian City Council. If the City Council accepts the
commission’s recommendation, the start of construction at Owyhee High School will be delayed and students will continue to
experience overcrowding in their schools. We need your voice and input before City Council to ensure Owyhee High School is built
on schedule to better serve West Ada’s students.
To give you some background, West Ada School District is proposing a new high school at Ustick and McDermott. This location
was selected by a committee of parents and administrators from all 54 schools to relieve overcrowding at Eagle High School and
Rocky Mountain High School. This location was also carefully selected to absorb the more than 2,000 students that will arrive in the
area as the more than 8,700 approved home sites in the Meridian High attendance area are built.
Owyhee High School will be funded by a bond measure that was approved by 67.3 percent of voters. During the bond election, the
location of Owyhee High School was included in all the materials provided to voters, including a mailer that was sent to every
residential address in the West Ada School District.
What do we need from you? West Ada’s proposal to build Owyhee High School goes to Meridian City Council on October 2, 2018
at 6 pm at Meridian City Hall. The City Council has the final authority on whether to let the school be approved and built and with
1
which conditions attached to the proposal. The Council meetings are open for public testimony and your voice at the hearing is
critical to the approval of Owyhee High School.
In addition, written comments are encouraged to be submitted to the city by email to: cjcoles@meridiancity.org or
citycouncil@meridiancity.org
Please let the Meridian City Council know that Owyhee High School is needed, the proposed school site is well located, and that
the Council should approve the project.
