Subject:Application for Building Owyhee High School, West Ada School District
Good Day,
On October 2, 2018, I understand that the Meridian City Council will be considering West Ada County
School District's proposal to build Owyhee High School at Ustick and McDermott Roads.
I am strongly requesting that the City Council work with the school district to approve and expedite the
construction of this school! The constituents of the West Ada District have already approved funding of
Owyhee High School in preparation for the tremendous housing and development growth that was
previously approved by the Meridian Planning and Zoning Commission and Ada County entities. I am
extremely appalled that the tremendous population growth has been permitted without provisions for
proper educational infrastructure, from city and county governments. (One only has to drive to the area of
Franklin and Ten Mile to see the massive quantity of homes and apartments being constructed! High
school students from this area need some place to attend!)
I do not live in the impacted area for this high school, but I am a taxpayer of West Ada County School
District and I am happy that there was planning to have a new high school to support this population. And
I wholeheartedly support the approval for building this school.
I do not think that this community can afford to be negligent in ignoring the obvious--that is, that there is
an overwhelming need for this school, at this time. In retrospect, I am extremely disappointed by the
recommendation by the Meridian Planning and Zoning Commission for the Meridian City Council, to deny
the application to build Owyhee High School. I'm certain that there are difficulties that need to be
overcome, before that entity would approve the building of this school. As a community, we may be able
to quibble over the details, but there needs to be a significant mindset to get this Owyhee High School
built now to support the growth that was previously approved and established by Meridian Planning and
Zoning and Ada County.
Thank you for your consideration in the above matter.

I have lived in this valley since 1956, and have never witnessed the growth that is occurring now. The West
Ada School District, which I live in and pay taxes to, is trying to stay ahead of this growth for obvious
reasons. This growth is definitely affecting the crowding of this area's schools. You can not control growth
by denying schools!
Pass the necessary requirements for the Owyhee School to be built at the District's chosen location!
