Subject: Approval of Owyhee High School
Attention Meridian City Council,
I am responding to the call to comment on the potential denial to construct a new Owyhee High School.
There is no question that the student load at Eagle and Rocky Mountain high schools is inefficiently high,
stressing educational resources as well as student performance. Voters approved a bond to construct the new
high school to accommodate the rapid and continuing growth in Meridian and property has been acquired.
The only negative impact of the high school, that I've read, is its location which may impact the access of
another property owner or traffic flows on major streets (Ustick and McDermitt). McDermitt should be
treated as a restricted access state highway which will eventually connect to I-84. Certainly this can be
resolved by an easement, frontage road or other legal means. Do not punish our kids with substandard
educational facilities due to battles over access or whatever else politicians can dream up. The West Ada
School District would not have promoted and passed this bond if it wasn't a critical need. So please do the
honorable thing and listen to your constituents.
Thank you.
