Here are my reasons: The property that is being used is currently zoned R4 within the city of Meridian. This in itself is reason enough to reject this proposal. There are, and have been, many residential sites surrounding this location for much longer than the applicant has owned this property. This property was purchased by applicants family. The area being requested for recycling is in an area that is and will be developed as residential in the near future. According to the Meridian comprehensive plan there are schools, residential, commercial and many other development plans slated in this area. How does a recycling dump fit into this area? Murgoitio was given the opportunity at the last city council meeting to revise his proposal, meet with the neighbors and come to some common ground on this project. However, the neighbors were not included in any such discussions and when he did finally have a neighborhood meeting he did not offer any new concessions to this project. This is a major issue, he has never shared his plans for development or what the facility would look like if approved. The unwillingness to share information has the neighbors very concerned of what the future site would look like if approved. This has been an ongoing issue. The unsightliness of the large piles of waste along major roadways is not a scene the the city should want in a growing R4 area. This dump can clearly be seen from new city park that is under construction at locust grove and lake hazel roads. The noise, dust and traffic from this dump should be enough to show city council that such a site should be located well outside R4 zoning and outside the city limits. Boise has a recycling site at 20 mile farm which is located far away from the city. The property values of all residents surrounding this dump will be negatively impacted. Not to mention any future development will also come to a halt in this area. Who wants to live or develop new business next to a dump that emits odors, dust and high volume of heavy equipment running non stop all day? I see that the city staff has recommended denial for this facility. If the city does consider passing this I would really have to question why they would go against staff recommendations and common sense?? Is it the fact that the city is already making deals with timber creek and that the relationships with Murgoitio and c ity council members, and even with the mayor, are weighing into this decision?? Government entities are in place to serve the people not to make “good ol boy” deals that support friends getting richer... Thanks —Todd
