Subject:In Regards to the Decision of Timber Creek Recycling Expansion (H-2018-0042)
City Clerk,
I would greatly appreciate if you would please forward this email to the city council members.
Joan Kash
600 E Columbia
Meridian, ID
19th September 2018
Dear Meridian City Council Members
My name is Joan Kash, I’ve lived in Meridian for the past 17 years at 600 E Columbia where my husband and I have the
great pleasure of raising our children at this address. The view from our home is absolutely beautiful and like most of my
neighbors conveyed the same thoughts at the September 18th City Council Meeting. Understanding the decision has been
made and what is done is done. However, I would encourage you take a drive into the country and visit your new addition
into Meridian City.
Start your drive at the corner of Cloverdale and Columbia Road and head west, late evening is the best time for this drive
about 2-3 hrs before sunset. As you drive west really take in the view from your vehicle. As you approach the top of hill
at Ten Mile Community church the scenic view starts with a beautiful view of the great Owyhee Mountain range (the
name of the next Meridian High School) and to the north is Boise foothills, but closer to the roads you will see beautiful
homes and see why my neighbor are so pass ionate about our neighborhood who have lived on Columbia Rd for more than
17 years. You will also see well kept farms, the Ten Mile Riding Club and that beautiful view continues for almost 2
miles. As you approach the intersection of Locust Grove and Columbia take a look to the North West corner, you will
notice your new addition to your city. As you take in that view what do you see? A big pile of sticks, high piles of mulch
and large industrial machinery, take in the curb appeal (this will only get bigger) and please remind yourselves that
Council Little Roberts, Council Milam, Council Cavener and Council Palmer are the reason why it will be there for the
next 10+ years. If you like that view than you made the right decision but if you don’t, just remember that your own city
staff and your own Mayor de Weerd opposed of the expansion based off the facts that were laid out in the original
proposal as well as the 70+ people that live on or drive down the road of Columbia every day. It’s not just those that live
on Columbia Rd that enjoy the scenic view but many others from your neighboring cities of Kuna, Canyon County, and
Boise. I encourage all council members to visit all corners of their city even if the edge of the city is 8+ miles from the
city hall.
One last note, Thank you Council Borton and Council Bernt for opposing the expansion of Timber Creek Recycling based
off facts that were presented to you in the September 18th City Council Meeting.
Sincerely,
Joan Kash
