From: Pamela Love [ mailto:plove60010@aol.com ] Sent: Friday, July 13, 2018 2:04 PM To: C.Jay Coles < cjcoles@meridiancity.org > Subject: Upcoming hearing regarding composting Just a quick note regarding the possibility for Meridian to expand their recycling program and commitment to a healthier community. I support the move to add composting to the existing recycling program. A composting program reduces waste in landfills, as well as offer up excellent organic matter to add to gardens, farms and businesses in the area. Compost can reduce use of chemical fertilizers, reintroduce trace minerals into depleted soils, thereby enriching soil and encouraging production of beneficial bacteria and fungi. Using compost has also been shown to reduce soil erosion as well. Some cities have also found ways to use composting, to create clean energy. Saving money in the process to reinvest into alternative sustainability initiatives. The long and short term benefits for a city composting program are immense and I applaud your consideration of this program. Thank You P. Love
