I do now. I can approve the Discover Lending sign. I would however, like the Planned Sign program for Fred Kesler to be changed slightly. The new Discover Lending sign looks almost the same except the word Discover is now raised. If there are additional differences that make it more conforming to the approved Fred Kesler sign let's please discuss them. I have included a copy of the denial letter that discusses my concerns regarding the previous sign for Discover Lending and the sign program for the Fred Kessler building. I have also included an example of what our planning department considers a cabinet sign that simulates pan channel lettering. Fred Kesler's sign was the first sign erected and set the tone for the building. The letters for the Farmers portion of the sign are the largest and are pan channel. The sign program should be for pan channel letters for all tenants, with bullet cabinets allowed for logos. I would also allow a sculptured cabinet the looks like pan channel (see example). It was intended by the Kesslers that the smaller tenants be permitted to have an equally small area of the wall below the gable area to accommodate their signage. Given the lengthy name of this tenant, there isn't sufficient room to use pan channel letters and the Kesslers also have several sculptured cabinets in their signage which will be in keeping with the consistency you're looking for. I will need to specify for the planned sign program that signs for this building are to be pan channel. Fred Kesler's sign was the first sign approved, so it sets the precedence. He has primarily pan channel, with logo cabinets. Therefore, Discovery Lending must submit a sign that is also pan channel. Please refer to the planned sign program standards in UDC 11-3D-9, specifically the part that says that "Sign designs shall reflect a common theme and incorporate similar design elements in terms of materials, letter style, illumination, sign type and shape."
