HomeMy WebLinkAboutMatt and Lori SmithWe, the undersigned, are
ADAMANTLY OPPOSED TO THE NUMBER OF
"STEP-UPS" GRANTED BY MERIDIAN CITY COUNCIL
upon developer request and resulting in higher density than desired by residents.
We concerned citizens believe the quality of life in the City of Meridian is increasingly defined by:
1. Overcrowded schools,
2. Overburdened roads,
3. Higher density neighborhoods,
4. A lack of oversized and/or estate and semi -rural residential lots,
5. A failure to create and protect Iow density residential zones.
Whereas, we believe the City has too long ignored the growing outcry from its residents regarding these concerns,
Whereas, we believe the City of Meridian should require neighborhood support and valid expert testimony
providing support for any and all residential zoning "step ups,"
Whereas, we further believe the City Council has been elected to represent the interests of its citizens and the City,
We believe the above concerns are valid and therefore respectfully request that Meridian City Council integrate our
concerns into thoughtful growth and development.
We hereby respectfully request:
1. Meridian City Council suspend ALL residential step ups, and
2. hxpedite a comprehensive overhaul of the City's Comprehensive PIan, Future Land Use Map and codes related
to residential transition,

SPECIAL AMENDMENT PETITION
We concerned citizens support the proposed text changes to Chapter 3, page 21, of
the City's Comprehensive Plan related to the Southern Rim.
Whereas, the proposed text meets Key Community Values as defined by Meridian's
comprehensive plan, page 3:
1. Manage growth to achieve high-quality development.
2. Enhance Meridian's quality of life for all current and future residents.
5. Protect Meridian's self-identity.
Whereas, the proposed text supports the comprehensive plan goal of housing diversity
by preserving low density housing zones, page 20:
Rural 1 Estate: to allow for agricultural uses and the ancillary development of single-family homes
on large parcels where city services (e.g. — sewer and water) may or may not be provided. Uses may
include both small and larger -scale agricultural related activities and single-family homes at densities less
than or equal to one unit per five acres. New development should recognize existing agricultural uses
and practices, respect view sheds and open space, and maintain or improve the overall health and
production of agricultural lands and resources in the area.
Whereas, the proposed text ensures development consistent with the City's current
Future Land Use Map,
Whereas, the proposed text reflects the wishes of surrounding neighborhoods and
residents,
Whereas, the proposed text will help provide urgently needed low density housing
inventory,
We therefore ask the City of Meridian City Council to approve the proposed Southern
Rim special amendments.
Signed,
