RE: Application H-2018-0042
I, Dallas Gene Reynolds, and my wife, Victoria C. Reynolds would like to express our opposition to
Application H-2018-0042 concerning the Amendment to the Development Agreement to expand the
current recycling business at the corner of Locust Grove and Columbia roads.
My wife and I searched for a couple of years to find a suitable location to build a home for our
retirement years. We found our lot here at Tranquil Estates in 2005 and built our beautiful home in
2006.
We planted our lawn, several trees and bushes on our acre and are very pleased with the way it turned
out. We have our own well for drinking water.
Even though the recycle existed when we purchased the lot, it seems their primary products were wood
and wooden products with minor noise levels. The last few years we have noticed a scaling up of the
operation to include much more garbage and bio -waste with increased smell and noise. The plant is
about Y2 mile and out of sight for the most part from our back yard and still somewhat tolerable.
Approval of this amendment would replace our view of a nice green grassy lot to a garbage dump.
We are convinced the expansion of the recycle plant will have several negative effects on our property
such as:
- Increased unpleasant odors
- Increased noise
- Increased unsightly -landscape
- Increased pests (rodents, skunks, flies, bees, mosquitos, etc)
Other negative effects less visible but every bit as much or more concerning are:
- Contamination of our water table (it may not destroy our water quality but I am fairly
confident that it won't do it any good)
- Lower property values and less desirable location (a concern when my wife and I reach the
age where we must sell)
We appreciate private enterprise and the desire to expand and grow. We also believe there are mixed
use applications that can exist side-by-side. We hope you find that trash and garbage recycling
shouldn't mix with middle to upper scale family homes.
