HomeMy WebLinkAbout2018 CC Update PresentationSINCE 2008 INITIAL POINT GALLERY In addition to all of our wonderful commissioners, the Meridian Arts Commission couldn't see the same success that we do without the help of many volunteers and community advocates. Thank you to all of those people who have helped us throughout the past year(s) and to those who participated in our initiatives. Photo by Shelly Houston More than 100 volunteer hours went in to maintaining the gallery. Over 300 people signed our visitor log. More than 80 artists had art on display. 2 0 1 7   Display cases will be in use nearly every month (the exception will be July and August in case the gallery needs to be used as a back-up concert venue) Multiple artists featured each month Traditional and contemporary works 2 01 8   Building a robust experience for patrons and artists alike WEST ADA'S "FRAMED" Image of Sabrina Proctor's "Julliard Dreams" In 2017 arts commissioners, Bonnie Zahn Griffith, Gina Lyon, and MAC's Council liaison, Genesis Milam, went to West Ada's 2017 Art Show "Framed," representing MAC as a jury to select winners for each elementary, middle, and high school divisions. Our contribution to MSO went toward the young artists' supplies including music acquisition and rental fees. Soloist awards were given to: Julia Caven Minjun Kwak Anthony Luo Christian Nielsen DAIRY DAYS ART SHOW  JUNE 24, 2017 Photo by Shelly Houston Meridian Dairy Board asked MAC back Nearly 30 artists participated in this year's Dairy Days Art Show All expenses reimbursed by the Dairy Board Rented canopies this year to give more structure and organization to the event, well received, but an additional expense  Photo by Shelly Houston CONCERTS ON BROADWAY  JULY - AUGUST, 2017 Photo by Shelly Houston Four Concerts in 2017   Smooth Avenue Band   "All New" High Street Party   Band   Erin and her Cello   Geoffrey Castle and his Celtic Night Band Food Trucks were at all four concerts Great opening acts including one local adult and her band, placed in the Emmett Fiddle Festival No rain outs! Great partnerships! Having WineGlass Arts Development as the production managers continues to improve the event(s) overall     professional staff increased     the value of the productions     and make Meridian known as a     great place for these bands to     return to in the future In 2018, Geoffrey Castle will return and has agreed to do some outreach with local students C O N T I N U O U S I M P R O V E M E N T S Photo by Shelly Houston MERIDIAN ART WEEK  SEPTEMBER 9-16, 2017 Photo by Shelly Houston MAC received encouragement from Mayor Tammy and local businesses to host Meridian Art Week again Michelle Glaze committed to recruiting businesses and helping them come up with artistic opportunities   22 organizations/businesses   participated   There was at least one    event each day of the   'week,' which was actually 8   days Photo by Shelly Houston Partners: Idaho Power, Idaho Central Credit Union, Jiffy Lube, West Ada School District, the Meridian Downtown Business Association, and many downtown businesses   Advertised in the Meridian Press and  with social media    Marketing could still be    improved Some businesses had no visitors during their events, we need to help these individual events see more success Photo by Shelly Houston PUBLIC ART Doug Green and Matt Hoffman created a GIS layer for public art. Matt turned this data into a StoryMap, which he updates for MAC as new installations are completed The StoryMap is available online for the public. This will be a great tool for us to help inform and educate our community about all of the wonderful art we have to offer in Meridian! P U B L I C A R T M A P Journey of Heroes, by Ken McCall, was completed in November and installed in December and January P A R K I D E N T I T Y M A P S I N S T A L L A T I O N Parks continues to work with artists on the Park Identities Public Art Roster as they develop identities and visual interest for new parks P A R K I D E N T I T I E S P U B L I C A R T R O S T E R I N U S E TREASURE VALLEY  YOUTH THEATER Photo from Treasure Valley Children's Theater The Lion King, Jr. • 60 participants including a drumming core and teen mentors • 1200 attendees between 4 shows, 2 in Meridian and 2 in Nampa • Tour to SLC with 30 to see TLK and talk back with performers Harriet the Spy • 20 participants • 400 attendees Photo from Treasure Valley Children's Theater HONK! Jr. • 25 participants • 400 attendees 8 in 48 Idaho • 60 participants • 200 attendees 2,375 people directly benefited due to our partnership Photo from Treasure Valley Children's Theater Other milestones: • Library Tour of Character Matters went to 8 libraries and reached 1,000 • Launched our first ever Fall tour of “The Lion, the Witch at the Wardrobe” which reached an estimated 5,700 students and families.  •On track to complete 88 educational classes, camps and workshops by the end of the year. As of Nov. 20, 1,081 students have participated in one of these programs - a 14% increase over last year. • Education, by the numbers: 17% increase in programs offered over the previous year • Theater for Young Audiences, by the numbers: 55% increase in audience reach over the previous year! • Theater for Young Performers, by the numbers: 22% increase in audience reach - not including the 7 performances of the holiday show OPEN HOUSE ON MAY 3, 2019 Thank you for another year of support!
