HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC - Public Testimony - Cliff Looney - 1.6 January 6, 2018 Dear Madam Mayor and Council members, I write to show support for the proposed “special amendment” which would ask for the Council to conform decisions to the existing Future Land Use Map which places a priority on large lots and preservation of open areas. Our city should not be condemned to a future of “shanty” neighborhoods where people don't have enough irrigation water, inadequate parking, or adequate common areas. These are quality of life issues which will effect all of us for a long time. The problems which we will now experience along Taconic with the accesses to Eagle Rd will not be easily solved. Abdicating responsibility by shrugging and saying that ACHD was responsible for the road plan is not helpful when the obvious over use of those road resources is the natural result of allowing overdevelopment and does not demonstrate good judgment. We have no obligation to the selfish financial motives of developers who have paid too much for the property. Our obligation is to the entire city to make it as attractive as we can. Please do not continue to approve development plans, i.e., “stepups” which result in congested streets, poor water supply, and over crowding of the available living space. The proposed “special amendment” is needed to make it clear that we really do want an attractive accessible city. Please do come tour the areas in question to determine what impact your decisions have on where we live. Thanks for considering this important decision for the future of Meridian.
