DO YOU HAVE ANY SPECIFIC SUGGESTIONS, COMMENTS, OR CONCERNS REGARDING
THE PROPOSED TEXT AMENDMENTS TO THE CITY OF MERIDIAN COMPREHENSIVE
PLAN?
• Residents of Meridian are dissatisfied with the increasing density of residential developments and lack of
larger lots which has been shown in testimonies from people from all sectors of the Meridian area. The concerns
are repeatedly echoed about the same issues: step ups, overcrowded schools, congested streets, and ‘cookie
cutter’ neighborhoods.

• The amendment, as I understand it, simply asks the city to comply with its own Future Land Use Map
(FLUM). The fact that developers oppose the amendment proves they have come to depend on step-up
approvals. By the city continuing to approve step-ups, it only feeds the appalling message to residents that
repeated and strong feedback from residents is ignored and futile.
• While the FLUM may be outdated, it is the only plan or evidence of a vision for planned growth for
Meridian. I was disturbed by the presentation January 3 rd where I felt that it was suggested that the FLUM was
only for guidance and not necessarily going to be followed.
Our future and what is left behind for those who follow must be thought through carefully and approached
strategically.
DO YOU HAVE ANY OTHER GENERAL QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FOR THE CITY
REGARDING THE COMP PLAN?
• Why does the majority of step-ups get approved without any expert testimony that they are needed? It
appears that the city accepts the developers telling them that this is what is wanted; when in fact, it is all that
seems to be offered.
• Why can’t city officials tour affected neighborhoods so they are familiar with applications and their
impacts?
• City Council should hold neighborhood forums and truly understand concerns that are unique in an affected
area. It would be nice to feel that residents are being heard and considered.
• Why hasn’t the code been updated to set a higher bar for green space, landscape, and buffers in and
surrounding developments?
The Southern Rim area now has White Bark, Sky Mesa East, Sky Mesa West, Century Farms, East Ridge, and
Reflection Ridge, to name a few, which have the smaller lots. It seems that if the city truly wants to provide
variety and choice to the consumer, the larger lots recommended in the proposed text amendment to the City’s
Comprehensive Plan is not only wise, but also forward thinking.
