Subject Traffic Related to new Movado and nearby Developments
Message Mayor and City Council
As a resident of the Sutherland Farm development for the past 12½ years, I have
2
watched the proposed development of nearby properties with careful interest. The
proposed new developments (Movado and others in the area north of the canal on the
edge of our development) will have an adverse effect on the streets passing through
the Sutherland Farm tract. Given that the nearest elementary school is located across
Cloverdale from the proposed new development without controlled access across
Cloverdale, the most likely route for parents, school buses and children walking to
school is through the Sutherland Farm and Muir Woods tracts, compounding the
danger to residents and children. Despite the ill-conceived assessment of Meridian
Planning and Zoning that it is not a problem, I highly recommend a re-visiting of this
conclusion. There are only three means of ingress and egress to the proposed Movado,
et al developments are: E. Copper Point Drive, E. Pewter Falls (through the
Silverstone Business Park), and Movado Way (newly built for access to Overland
Road). None of these routes are appropriate to the children and families needing
access to travel to their nearest elementary school. Without signalized, controlled
access to Cloverdale Road travel must utilize roads through Sutherland Farm and
Muir Woods with the resulting increase in traffic. This is unacceptable to residents in
both tracts.
Please include my concerns in the City Council meeting on December 5.
