I have been looking at the plan for providing access to the new subdivision that will add a large number of new residences in the area of Cloverdale and Overland Roads. What appears to be a glaring omission in the plan is a failure to provide a direct way to get to Cloverdale Road. Under the current plan the only direct access to a major road would be onto Overland Road as the other ways into or out of the subdivision would be through a business park or a residential area that already has maximized its traffic capabilities. While providing a traffic entrance to Cloverdale would entail bridging the Ridenbaugh Canal and involve a moderate additional expense the advantages far outweigh that expense. 1. It would provide a better and safer way for students and parents to get to Pepper Hills School. 2. An additional entrance would provide a more direct way for commuters living in the southern portion of the subdivision to enter and leave. 3. Emergency response would be enhanced, particularly when multiple emergency units are dispatched. This would be true in the event of most law enforcement responses, emergency medical responses, structure fires and all fire department responses when the first due engine is already committed to an incident. 4. An additional entrance would be proactive to a solution to an identified potential problem that would be virtually impossible to correct later without a great expense. Perhaps the most important consideration should be for the future residents who are not represented in these discussions but will have to live with the decisions that impact their lives for years to come.
