Dear Mayor de Weerd and City Council Members,
I am a 24 year resident of Meridian and have just recently built a house in the Sky Mesa subdivision. I appreciate your
willingness to consider my families and neighbors genuine concerns regarding the long‐term proposed direction of South
Meridian.
The biggest concern is the overall “density” of what is being proposed in this development. The stress that
oversaturation puts on infrastructure is evident in many pockets throughout the valley. The effect on housing values,
overcrowded schools, excessive traffic…..not to mention the safety concerns that come with high density housing
relative to adequate roads, walking paths and parks. It’s unreasonable for this area. Especially seeing the impact that by
just adding a subdivision like Century Farms has had on Eagle Rd already.
Many of us invested in this area because it is unique to some of the rest of Meridian’s subdivisions where developers like
Corey Barton and others have found a way of making houses fit into tiny lots. I believe there is a place for those homes(I
once owned a CB home and loved it), however when people invest in areas such as Sky Mesa/Blackrock where we could
get larger lots and build with reputable builders such as BHH’s, we would expect some continuity of similar homes and
open spaces. I can only imagine that there must be a reasonable and economically feasible plan where BHH could
continue development that is consistent with the existing Sky Mesa/Blackrock homes. As others have suggested, a
reasonable solution would also include a proposal to create a large park off of Taconic (below Cyanite DR) to support the
homes in South Meridian and to further reduce the issue of density, traffic, etc.
Many of the developments in North Meridian, Eagle and parts of Boise have shown to be great examples of well thought
out subdivisions where developers and city officials considered population, house values, schools and safety. Today,
when you google “Meridian Subdivisions”, both Spurwing and Sky Mesa are listed under the category of “Top Luxury
Communities”. This is exactly what drove my wife and I to buy a lot and build a house in this area. With the proposed
plans currently being discussed by BHH, I am extremely concerned that the “vision” is being lost for this community. It is
certainly not too late to do the right thing and consider the suggestions being offered by those of us who have invested
in these communities. I am asking that you please deliberate carefully on the long‐term impact of this area and vote in a
way that would preserve it as one of Meridian’s top luxury communities in which it was intended.
Thank you for your thoughtful consideration.
