Dear Mayor de Weerd and City Council,
I am a resident of South Meridian in the Sky Mesa Subdivision. I have
attended several meetings regarding Boise Hunter Homes' proposal for
Sky Mesa East, and I attended the City Council Meeting last week. I
appreciated your time and thoughtfulness in considering the long-term
impacts of this project on South Meridian.
I am glad BHH has adjusted their original plans for high density housing;
but I would like to be sure a few other concerns are considered:
• I urge you to PLEASE not approve higher density housing on
infrastructure that is not ready for higher density population & was not
planned for it in the City’s Comprehensive Plan. These significant jumps
in zoning will more quickly overcrowd the schools and drastically worsen
traffic. With Century Farm growing like wildfire already, a staff member
at Hillsdale told me Friday, they have already increased enrollment by
100 students since the Spring.
• Boise Hunter should be pushed to build a larger park—like the 8 acre
Tuscany park with bathrooms, swings, and room to run. With so many
houses going in Sky Mesa and White Bark, a 2.5 acre park is
insufficient for so many people. We need that green space to foster
community.
• We would love to see a MULTI USE PATH that will connect Sky Mesa
and Blackrock to the future Regional Park, YMCA, and future
Albertson’s to encourage a healthy South Meridian lifestyle.
BHH is hardly building any 10ft multiuse path. They are mainly just
using what Blackrock already built years ago---not investing much in it
at all themselves.

• At the City Council Meeting the variance in road setback requirements
to accommodate the patio homes was a huge source of worry---safety
issues, traffic bottlenecks, and very convoluted roadways with a
roundabout, a hawk signal crosswalk, and the medians all mixed
together.
A good compromise could be to have BHH eliminate those 39 patio
homes and complicated entries and exceptions to ACHD’s norms and
replace the patio homes with larger lots. In this way BOTH density AND
traffic and safety issues would be addressed.
We love living in Meridian and many great developments that have been
done in North Meridian. We would love for South Meridian to be
developed very carefully with a lot of thought for schools, green space,
connectivity, and community. We only get one chance to do it right, and
our planning will affect people for decades.
Thank you for your time and all your work in the community,
Elise Poulson
