From: Andrea Fonnesbeck [ mailto:fonz933@gmail.com ] Sent: Sunday, March 26, 2017 11:55 AM To: Caleb Hood; Bill Parsons; Joshua Beach; Tammy de Weerd Subject: Traffic Concerns South of Victory on Eagle Rd already - Please do not add multi-housing to mix I heard Boise Hunter's presentation to build 150+ multi-family housing units on 10 acres at the intersection of Taconic and Eagle. There is already enough traffic strain on Eagle now with the existing/proposed/ongoing single family homes being built. Although I have heard there are plans to someday expand Eagle to four lanes with a center turn lane, that doesn’t help us now – by adding in multi-family dwellings, it would exponentially increase traffic. I live in Kingsbridge subdivision, just South of Victory and it takes me on average 13-20 minutes (in good weather) just to get to the I-84 freeway entrance – that’s less than 1.5 miles – each morning to get to work. And sometimes, traffic is backed up to almost Amity so I can’t even get out of my intersection until someone is nice enough to let me break in, adding in even more time. We moved from Denver/Littleton/Lone Tree area a few years ago to here to get out of the horrid unplanned, overdevelopment there. For example, look at Highlands Ranch (now known as Highlands RAUNCH): too many developers asked 2 for either complete waivers, or delayed until after building waivers, to improve infrastructure (roads, parks, etc.). So, they built, and built, creating traffic nightmares – for residents, first responders, people walking with no sidewalks on overburdened roads, etc. And, some builders who had promised to do improvements after they had built and made their money just walked away – leaving everyone in the lurch. By not looking at a master plan for traffic, quality of life, green space, safe places to walk, etc. – and by not forcing builders and developers to improve infrastructure BEFORE they build – but only looking at tax revenues – Littleton/Lone Tree have become unpleasant places to live and have not enjoyed the same increase in property values of other surrounding areas. Unfortunately – I see the same going on here in Meridian. Example recently: It was inane to allow the two new subdivisions to start just South of Victory and not have the developers move the four power poles on the West side of Eagle to at least create a center turn lane. There are already fender benders for people trying to turn in to the first Tuscany entrance as there is nowhere to go since the “divider” was put in. And you can see the dents from cars hitting the poles since they stick out so far in the road from the last couple years. I’ve brought this up before and was told that Eagle was not a Meridian issue since it’s a highway. That is not what we all want to hear – we want to hear that you are listening to us and our issues and concerns. There has to be some cooperation between Meridian and the State traffic/roads groups and departments – please also take the time to look at a master plan that incorporates our concerns about Eagle Road – and to listen to your constituents. Many of us have moved here to live where there is still a little green space, traffic is manageable and quality of life is good. I was born in Idaho and thought I made a good choice to return here. I don’t want this to turn into Denver/Littleton/Lone Tree (and for that matter, Salt Lake where I also witnessed the same). From just the last two years being here - I can see the path being taken appears to be unrestrained with the first concern as tax revenue. Please stop and take some time to look at, and listen to, traffic concerns and quality of life concerns from current residents. 3 Thank you for your time and consideration.
