Subject Proposal on UDC Change

Message Members of the City Council, I'd like to address the proposed UDC change from a bit of an
outsider's point of view as a long time resident of the Treasure Valley. We are preparing to sell our
Nampa home and we've had our eyes on Meridian for several years for a number of reasons. As a
business owner and mother, I have to say that proposing to restrict business operations from home
is incredibly off putting and makes me rethink my desire to purchase a home there. People have a
right to earn a living. As for the concerns outlined, I am bothered by the fact that there are adequate
sections of city code present to address those under articles pertaining to disturbing the peace and
abatable nuisances. It seems to me that enforcing already existing laws in these exceptional cases
would be warranted rather than wasting time and effort on code most people don't seem to want.
Introducing new language to the UDC regarding home business operation is detrimental to families
and the local economy. As a mother to a child w ith a disability, stay at home work is something I've
had to fall back on as "traditional" work is out of the question for me. Please consider throwing out
the entire idea and using existing laws rather than introducing something that will potentially
restrict peoples' right to earn a living. Thank You, Rachel Murillo
