Meridian City Planning & Zoning Commission:
We are concerned about this project as we’ve heard that the housing to be developed will be used for transitional
housing. While we don’t object to this sort of housing for abused women and children, we do object any use for
recovering alcoholics/addicts and/or parolees. This location is within a block of multiple school bus stops and in the
middle of a residential area with a lot of children. People choose to live in neighborhoods where they feel safe.
We are worried about an increase in crime and violence because of this transitional housing. Numerous scientific
studies have found that supportive housing has a negative effect on nearby property values and that total and violent
crime within 500 ft of supportive housing is statistically higher.
There is already a disabled-care home at the end of our street and the increase in traffic and trash service is significant.
Adding another care facility/home would saturate the area with these type of facilities and increase traffic further.
Sincerely,
Richard and Alane Holloran
