We would like to express our concerns with regards to the proposed housing development, East Ridge
Estates. Our family has resided in the Blackrock Subdivision for the past 8 years. Upon choosing this
location to build our home, we were pleased to be located in a community with limited through traffic.
This has allowed us to begin our family with the reassurance that the kids can play in front of our house,
located on a quiet street.
East Ridge Estates developers have indicated that their intent is to extend our street (Cyanite Drive)
through their subdivision. This is appropriate, and expected, as the street has always had signage at the
end stating that it will continue in the future. Our concern is that they are using this street as their ONLY
access to the new development. The property they are developing also boarders Lake Hazel. The plan
that the developer has submitted indicates that they will be making the main access to the subdivision
from Lake Hazel. They say that they will not create this entrance until they reach phase II of
construction. We are not clear as to why they could not create this entrance from the beginning, thus
allowing construction equipment and contractors to enter without driving through our residential street.
We ask that you discuss this with the developer, and urge him to create the entrance from Lake Hazel.
We are also concerned with the higher density zoning that the developer is requesting. Our current
subdivision consists of larger homes on large lots. With the current growth in the Treasure Valley, the
demand of larger estate homes is increasing. It would seem logical that the city of Meridian would
capitalize on the opportunity to draw new residents to the valley into our city with homes which meet
this criteria. Our superior access to the 1-84 corridor, thus downtown Boise, would compete nicely with
similar homes that have been built in the Eagle area over the past 10 years.
Thank you for your time, willingness to represent the residents of our city and commitment to making
the future of our city secure and prosperous.
