Honorable Mayor DeWeerd:
We, as the Board of Directors of the Ashford Greens Owners Association, have a concern with
several issues which the City of Meridian is involved.
The first issue has to do with the maintenance responsibilities of six drainage ponds located on
the Cherry Lane Golf Course within the Ashford Greens Subdivision. Three different recorded
maintenance agreements are not consistent as to who is the responsible party. In May 2003, four
board members and residents of Ashford Greens met with Brad Watson (Meridian Public Works
Dept.) to discuss these agreements and clear up this issue. Brad told us he would have the City
attorneys look at these agreements and come up with some options for resolution. Up until
August 2004, we have not heard from Brad or any City attorneys. One of our board members
(Kent Foster) contacted Brad in early August and was informed that they had been swamped and
the City attorneys had not yet looked at our documents.
The second issue that concerns us is the new ordinance the City is considering related to trespass
on the Cherry Lane Golf Course. We understand that some regulations regarding trespass issues
are necessary. However, we also have a concern that the needs of Ashford Greens residents
adjacent to the fairways are adequately addressed and protected. A good example might be a
resident mowing an adjacent golf course lawn area or applying a herbicide to control the spread
of weeds. We feel this should not be a violation of trespass if the golf course is failing to
properly maintain their property.
With this letter, we would like to request some time on your City Council meeting agenda to
address these items. We understand it takes some lead time to get on your agenda. Please
contact AI Musser, 4388 W. Dawson Dr., Meridian, ill 83642 (855-9195) when you have
scheduled the Association on the agenda..
