HomeMy WebLinkAboutPZ - Public Testimony by Marcella Peterson - 12.21 Machelle Hill From:Marcella Peterson <MMP89015@msn.com> Sent:Friday, December 02, 2016 3:20 PM To:bwwong@ashdidaho.org; kgoldthorpe@achdidaho.org; Caleb Hood; Joshua Beach Cc:mwallace@achdidaho.org; Machelle Hill Subject:Firenze Plaza CPAM, AZ, PP H-2016-0102 Gentlemen and Ladies, I am writing this letter to express my concern and the concern of my neighbors regarding the proposed mixed- use zoning of the property on the south/west corner of Eagle and Amity Roads for the proposed Firenze Plaza and, in particular, the proposed extension of Mount Etna Drive, a residential street with home fronts facing that street, making it a through street to the proposed Firenze Plaza commercial center and to Eagle Road. I am also writing to express my concern regarding the extension into the Firenze Plaza commercial center of any other residential street with home fronts facing the street, including Burgo and Taormina Streets and Santo Stefano Drive. The community swimming pool is on the corner of Zaldia and Burgo, and during the swimming season families and children often cross Zaldia and Burgo on their way to and from the pool. The intersection of Zaldia and Montague is also a busy on-foot intersection where children are crossing to go to school or to the swimming pool. I am a retiree who lives on Santo Stefano Drive and may not be so much personally impacted, but I share serious concern with the young families living in the neighbor- hood where children cross the streets walking to school, wait at bus stops to get to school, play in their front yards and ride their bikes on the street, often crossing the street to play with other children or to retrieve their balls which may go into the street. The safety of residents, especially children, must be a factor taken into consideration when deliberating the approval or non-approval of these proposals, particularly the extension of current residential streets in Tuscany with 25mph speed limits into the proposed Firenze Plaza commercial center. I implore you to take into account the safety of the residents on these streets, especially the children, and vote against allowing these residential streets to become access roads into and out of the proposed Firenze Plaza commercial center. As an alternative, if Eagle and Amity, the current connector roads, cannot handle the influx of traffic into the Firenze Plaza commercial center anticipated over the next few years, postpone the zone changes as long as necessary to require the developers to bear all or some of the cost of widening Eagle and Amity roads and installing lights if required, to accommodate 2 the projected increased traffic. Please do not set a precedent of developers being allowed to get approval of zone changes to convert previously zoned residential property to mixed use or commercial property for their own gain at the expense of the residents who have invested in their property and community for the good of their families. Thank you in advance for your consideration of these serious issues of concern to Tuscany residents in this area. Marcella Peterson
