Subject:Proposed Firenze Plaza Development
Mr. Hood, Mr. Beach and Ms. Hill,
I OPPOSE the proposed Firenze Plaza Development at Amity and Eagle Rd.
I live in the Tuscany Subdivision that borders this open land.
1. Another Grocery store is not needed. There are 6 existing grocery stores within 5.1 miles from this location.
Pauls Market 2.7 miles. Lake Hazel Rd.
Fred Meyer 2.7 miles. Overland Rd.
Albertsons 2.9 miles Overland Rd.
Winco 2.6 miles Meridian Rd.
Walmart 4.1 miles Overland Rd Meridian (where I do most of my shopping!)
Walmart 5.1 miles Overland Rd Boise
2. This proposal is about the developer wanting to make as much money as possible, not about
what is best for the city of Meridian and the existing community.
The developer is asking for everything...banking $$$ on getting most or all passed by Planning and Zoning.
3. There is NO other shopping center in the area has this many residential streets feeding into it, like Firenze
Plaza is proposing.
I looked at 15 shopping centers on google in Meridian and Boise. There is a reason other shopping centers
do not have residential streets from a
1000 plus house subdivision feeding directly into it......because it is unacceptable.
a. Siena Elementary school is in Tuscany Subdivision. Young children will be walking and riding their
bikes to and from school.
Yes, there are sidewalks but these young children will be crossing many streets to get to school.
The risk of a child being hit by a motorist due to increased traffic through our subdivision IS REAL.
b.There is a pool at the corner of Zaldia and Burgo. Many young children, parents and toddlers walk or
ride bikes to that pool and many cars park around it.
Increasing cars traveling right to and around that pool by 200-400 cars a day is putting everyone going
to that pool at risk.
Note: There are plans considering placement of a traffic light at Zaldia Dr and Eagle Rd. We have been
told it will be considered in the future by Bruce Wong at ACHD.
That is the most logical place for the light considering Zaldia runs across Eagle Rd to another
subdivision, so I am 99% sure a traffic light will be placed there....in the future.
If the Firenze Plaza development is approved as is....that traffic light will make Burgo St in
Tuscany and the pool at the corner of Burgo and Zaldia a living hell for Tuscany residents.
c. Making the street Mt Etna flow all the way through to the commercial shopping center will bring the
Tuscany residents too much traffic. MANY children will be placed in harms way.
Those houses face the street and it is a lon g fairly straight street......so motorists will tend to speed. Many
residents ride their bikes around Tuscany but with increased traffic, it will place them at risk too.
All the residents living on those streets will no longer feel they or their children are safe. More traffic,
more risk.

4. I am opposed to the building of town homes. Tuscany Subdivision has the reputation of having nice
homes, good builders. That is what attracted many buyers to Tuscany.
Building town homes next to 2,500- 3,000 sq foot homes is adding insult to the injury. It is all about more
money for the developer, not enhancing the existing the community.
My proposal/compromise:
• If the developer is granted commercial for the all and powerful Albertsons Store....then the
remaining land needs to be single family homes (NO town homes) AND
• please for the safety of the children....do not have drive through roads to Tuscany. That is going to
spell disaster.
• The Firenze Plaza Development needs to be self contained and no straight shot roads into Tuscany
for those to short cut through and place pedestrians and bicyclists at risk.
•
• OR Build a Firenze Subdivision consisting of half acre lots for large single family homes and some
patio homes instead of town homes.
•
PLEASE look at all those other shopping centers on Google earth. None... are set up like the proposed
Firenze PLaza development. Ask yourself why?
PLEASE listen to our concerns and seriously consider the safety issues involved.
Lastly, I do not live on any of the major streets this development will impact. I am speaking up because ....the
proposal is a bad plan and is not acceptable.
Sincerely,
Carolyn Tenn
