I was made aware that with the project planned for the south east corner of the neighborhood included entrances from the commercial area into Tuscany. I was also told that the hope was to divert traffic from Amity and Eagle through our neighborhood. I am concerned first and foremost for the safety of the children in the neighborhood. Siena Elementary is a walk zone only school whose enrollment is around 600 students. A good number of those students walk or bike to school and it's not just the ones who live close. I know students who walk or ride from my area .75- 1 mile from the school and also some who live on Taoromina and Mount Etna, the very streets that will me made into entrances. Adding traffic to the roads in Tuscany would decrease safety for those children. I live 2 doors down from Palermo cars drive 5+ miles an hour faster down the street. It frightens me when I know kids are on the roads as well. Montague is already busy and even more than that has homes on the street as do Taoromina and Mount Etna. if they become main thoroughfares for a commercial area I would be alarmed. The safety of friends and neighbors should not be risked for an entrance. My children ride bikes to the park and to their friends homes. A neighborhood such as Tuscany, where residents watch out for each other and do everything 2 they can to keep residents safe, should not become a neighborhood where we fear for our children. We do our best to teach our children to be safe, to look both ways before crossing streets. However kids are kids and sometimes they forget. Many times I have seen a car slam on its brakes while a child on a bike rides into the street in front of them. Adding traffic would make accident involving children more likely, and that should terrify anyone. I also know that a middle school bus stop is on Montague and Amity. It is not very light when these kids congregate at the stop. With additional traffic coming down that road I fear for the safety of those children as well. Please look at all options before making a decision and especially put the safety of children above traffic and business... no child's safety should be put at risk for such things. Sincerely, Lisa Larsen
