COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES

Adoption of the Agenda: Motion made to adopt the agenda as presented by
Dr. F. Thomason; seconded by Dr. T. Hammond. All ayes — agenda adopted —
No further discussion.
3. Historical Downtown Discussion with Mayor Tammy de Weerd: Mayor
Tammy attended the meeting to discuss a partnership with HPC, MDC, and the
City to update the Walking Tour to become a more interactive experience for the
user. When complete the Walking Tour will be available electronically through
the City Website and will be marked with historical signage throughout the Core
area. Signage will be imbedded with QR codes allowing users of Smartphones
to launch additional web content including photos and videos. Dr. Hammond, Dr.
Thomason, and Commissioner Johnston volunteered to be on the committee with
City Staff, MDC members, and community volunteers.
4. Approval of the February 14th and March 14th 2013 Meeting Minutes: Motion
made to approve the minutes by Dr. F. Thomason; seconded by A. Nelson-
Jerolleman. All ayes — No further discussion.
5. Approval of the Monthly Financial Statement: Motion made to approve the
financial statement as presented by B. Johnston; seconded by A. Nelson-
Jerolleman. All ayes — No further discussion.
FY2014 Budget Discussion: Commissioners discussed the needs for FY2014.
The Commission would still like to send a member to the National Historic
Preservation Conference in Indianapolis in October. The intent is also to
complete a 5 -year historic preservation plan. It was decided that with the City

continuing to minimize spending and being mindful of the economy that no
enhancements would be asked for and the Commission will move forward within
the current budget amount.

8. Historical Society and History Center Update by Lila Hill: Full report on file
9. Discussion of Idaho Sesquicentennial and Event Planning
a. Public Awareness and Advertising Plan: J. Jones informed the
Commission of the steps taken to notify the public of the events.
Facebook posts have been sent, a mass e-mail was sent to all Social
Studies, Government, Economics, and History teachers in the Meridian
School District, the City website has published the content, and the May
2013 City Newsletter will also feature the events.
b. May 01, 2013: Event 1 — "Settlers Make the Desert Bloom"
May 15, 2013: Event 2 — "Once Upon a Trolley"
May 29, 2013: Event 3 — "Idaho and Lincoln at 150"
10. Old Business
a. Historic Preservation Bylaws, Ordinance and Commissioner terms:
Ordinance No. 13-1550 was approved to stagger the terms of the Historic
Preservation Commissioners. The bylaws will also be updated to reflect
the new terms.
b. McFadden Market Update: J. Jones informed the Commission that the
area around the building has been fenced off to prevent any injury to
citizens.
