Dear Warren,
Your email has been received by the Mayor’s Office. We appreciate you contacting us to let us know of
your concerns for the proposed changes to development agreement for the Knighthill project. I will
forward your comments to our City Clerk for the record and to be included in the packet the Mayor and
Council members receive for the public hearing. Once an application is made, the Mayor and Council
can only make comments during the public hearing process.
I have copied Josh Beach, the staff member assigned to this project. He will be able to answer any
questions you may have regarding the Modification of the Development Agreement or the hearing.
Thank you for your comments and being part of the public process.
My Best,
Mayor Tammy

Mayor Tammy,

I am writing to hopefully prevent the Meridian City Council from providing a variance
from commercial zoning to residential zoning for apartments to be built at the corner of
Linder and Chinden. This area already is saturated with rush hour traffic to and from
Boise on Chinden. Most days you must wait three lights to be able to traverse
Chinden. Then, people taking children to Willow Creek Elementry in Lochsa Falls and
Challenger Charter School in Lochsa Falls must again wait several lights at Chinden and
Long Lake to drop children off. Traffic by these schools is very dense and would only be
more so by adding apartment complexes in this area adjoining Challenger School.
The safety issues presented here are that there are four exits and entrances to this
business development. Already with a tobacco shop and a bar/restaurant in the
complex. Linder Road is laned such that a person northbound on Linder is not legally
able to turn into the business complex. This person would need to continue to Chinden
turning west and then having to travel past the Chinden exit to the complex as there is a
cement divider here. This person now must exit at Long Lake where two schools also
enter and exit. They drive directly past Challenger School where little children are
constantly crossing the road. The only other way to enter this area would be to enter
the Lochsa Falls entrance and travel through our neighborhoods to get to this
complex. This traffic is not safe and our streets were never designed to accommodate
through traffic. We are lucky to have one lane traffic if anyone parks on the street.
Then, the final staw would be the Costco and possibly Home Depot businesses coming
into the field across the street. This traffic now totally saturates the Chinden and Linder
roadways. Without extensive road improvement in this area which would be 5 lanes on
Chinden and 5 lanes on Linder you need to keep the zoning restriction to commercial in
this area. Keep our children safe and let us enjoy our neighborhood enjoy what we had
originally been advised that this area is commercial, not residential. There are already
three apartment/condo developments within one mile of this location.
Sincerely
Warren Schiffer
