RE: Easy Jet Subdivision Application #RZ15-012 PP15-016 CUP 15-017. Hearing Date- 12/1/15
On October 15, 2015 this matter was heard by the Meridian Planning and Zoning Commission. The meeting
hall was filled to standing room only and testimony went on for over three hours. Only the applicant
spoke favorably of this project and every Meridian citizen that spoke testified against it for one reason or
another and there were many issues brought before the Commissioners. At the end of the hearing your
Meridian Planning and Zoning Commission put forth what I believe to have been the best possible
recommendation regarding this application. The Commission was limited by actions take as far back as 2002
and had no choice but to approve some sort of high density, multi -family development on this property but,
they also heard the citizens of Meridian and their passionate pleas to at least accomplish two things: reduce
the structure size from three story to two story to make the project better integrate into the surrounding
community and as a net result reduce the impact of population density by reducing the number of units from 64
to 48.
Three story structures in an area where there are none more than two stories (mostly residences) would
significantly impact views and line of site, especially for those closest to the new structures. The proposed
population density will impact surrounding neighborhoods that have privately owned and maintained common
areas and park/wetland areas. Additional traffic, although approved by ACHD, will bottle -neck at the
intersection of Easy Jet and Eagle Rd. and result in some commuters exiting the area through residential
neighborhoods to reach other egresses onto main arterials.
Along with many others I encourage you to only approve this application with the modifications
recommended by your Planning and Zoning Commission. By the way, their vote on these modifications
was unanimous.
My wife and I are currently out of town and regret that we cannot attend the hearing on Dec. 1 st.
Thank you for your service to our community.
