HomeMy WebLinkAboutPublic Testimony by Brian and Maralee TurnerProject name: CUP 14-018 Ada County Dispatch Center Hearing date: 12/18/2014 We are not in favor of the Ada County dispatch center and tower being built in the proposed location at the intersection of Pine and Stonehenge. We have several concerns and questions: Concerns: 1) Concern and risk of adverse health effects from the radio frequency radiation emitted from the tower. (We do not trust government safety standards). 2) Decrease in property value and decrease salability of property. (The proposed dispatch center will be located very near two of the four exits for the Danbury Fair subdivision, directly across the street from many private residences). 3) Unsightly visual effects. (A tower that is 180 feet tall is not out of immediate view as the letter states). 4) Future expansion of communication devices, thus increasing all of the above concerns! Questions: 1) Why is this second facility needed? Why can't the current 911 dispatch tower be updated to meet the current desired expansion. The current tower at the Ada County Jail is in a seemingly better location, not directly near private residences, as far as we can determine. 2) What technology will the proposed communication tower use? What frequency bands will they utilize? 3) There is mention of private expansion in the future. Will resident input be considered in the future as this expansion occurs? Who profits from the private sector expansion? 4) Those in position to approve the dispatch center and tower proposal should ask themselves the following question, "Would I like this tower to be built across the street from the subdivision I live in?" We were also disappointed in how incompletely the site was described in the residential letter inviting residents to a meeting with the applicant on Nov. 12th. The existence of a data communications tower was mentioned as a seemingly sub -note, and the potential height of the proposed tower was not mentioned at all. We admit that we overlooked the mention of a tower being part of the facility. We think this should have been explained more directly and clearly and perhaps some neighbors would have attended the meeting- we certainly would have wanted to. Sincerely, Brian and Maralee Turner
