Call for Artists: 2018 ART WEEK SHORT FILM FESTIVAL
OVERVIEW:
The Meridian Arts Commission (MAC) seeks middle and high school students to compete in our first
ever Art Week Short Film Festival. Individuals or teams will be challenged to create a 3 – 10 minute
film. The theme for this year’s festival is: How Art Impacts Your Daily Life. You may interpret this
theme in many ways, but your completed film should have a clear and intuitive connection to the
theme. A monetary award of $50 and the opportunity to participate in a one-hour pre-production
consultation with Northwest Motion Pictures staff will be granted to the creator(s) of the top film,
as selected by a panel. If competing as a team, the monetary award will be split evenly and the
pre-production consultation will apply to the group as a whole for a future team project.
DATE OF SCREENING:
The Short Film Festival will take place on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at the Meridian Library
District’s unBound, in Downtown Meridian . The screening will start at 6:30 p.m. You may arrive as
early as 6:00 p.m. to mingle with other attendees and find a seat . We will play as many films as
possible, but plan to allow our jurors about 20 minutes to discuss their scores and make a selection
for first place. Awards will be announced around 7:45 p.m., or sooner.
ELIGIBILITY:
Individuals or teams may compete. Teams should consist of no more than six students enrolled in a
middle or high school in the West Ada School District or another middle or high school within the
Meridian city limits (private, charter, etc.), for the 2018-2019 school year. All team members must
be eligible. Teams must use their own supplies or work with local resources to borrow needed
supplies.
To apply for the 2018 Art Week Short Film Festival, please submit your video (via link, downloadable
link, or flash drive) and your (or your team’s) complete Application and Acknowledgements form, by mail
or delivery to the address below or via e-mail.
AWARDS:
A panel of representatives will jury the completed films on the criteria below
Interpretation and the clarity of the theme to the viewer (5 points)
Creativity and originality of the depicted theme (5 points)
Quality of artistic composition and overall design based on the theme (5 points)
Overall impression of the film (5 points)
