We have received a packet of Locust Grove school photos from a descendant of a former teacher. Children are not identified. Probably 1940 era photos. AND – Hillary stand up and take a bow! Hillary has located a great 1935 era Idaho Transportation aerial photo of Meridian. She enlarged it for our use & we will take it to have a larger copy made so we can identify the buildings in the area. The population for 1930 was 1,004 and 1940 it was 1465 so not many as you might think. But a fun project – Planning & Zoning says they want a copy for their wall. Most of the city council members went on tour of the History Center & storage areas with us earlier this month. I think they were surprised at the extent of our holdings. A brief history of the Historical Society was e-mailed to each before the tour so they didn’t come totally unaware of what we might have in the collection. They were accompanied by the city clerk & his assistant, Chris. Ella is spending time one afternoon a week entering the property owners by subdivision, block and lots for the Original Townsite. She said yesterday that she was into the 3rd block of the Old Townsite. She deserves a stand up, as well as Hillary. We have received a request to release the ownership of the old bus, which receives very little use, to a private individual with the Historical Society being allowed to keep the remaining funds that came to us from the Meridian Historical Foundation when we got the bus title. Those funds have kept in fuel & licensing costs. Driver’s for the older vehicle are also getting scarcer! We were asked to settle a question about the Hungry Onion, but did not have the answer so sent the applicant to Alliance Title, the company that is responsible for 5 local area county records. He returned with a copy for our files of all the transactions for the Hungry & gave us a generous donation. Another brought in a trade token from J. A. Pitman & again, unsolicited, gave us a donation – Maybe because the trade token coin he brought was listed in Joseph Mutch’s list of Meridian trade tokens. Again thanks to Hillary for her photo discovery!
