I live in the square mile just north of this project (I live between McMillian and Chinden in Paramount) and we now have THREE storage facilities in our square mile, as well as the Prelude Apartments (which I realize were zoned correctly). However, the parking for the Prelude apartments is grossly inadequate and ACHD had to put up No Parking signs lining McMillian road. The cars now park on the semi-curve street across from Heritage which is creating congestion and safety concerns. Furthermore, the visual impact of the three story apartment buildings next to the Paramount patio homes is an eyesore and violates what Meridian would like to promote- developments with seamless transitions and integration into the existing urban fabric. I would hate for my fellow Meridian neighbors to see the same deterioration of their area of town as we have seen in ours. Just last night, we had two attempted break-ins in Paramount where burglars got on roofs and open second story windows to gain access to the homes. Luckily, homeowners were in the homes at the time and called the police. Plain and simple, we have seen an increase in crime in our neighborhood (especially car break-ins) as those sites developed. Meridian has a reputation for being a family-friendly town and part of that is being a safe place to live and I believe that strategic, wise land use decisions can facilitate our law enforcement officers to keep Meridian safe. The residents, especially the 9/11 letter from Beth Lucas states very clear reasons why this application should be denied and I hope her points will be carefully considered, one by one. Finally, at the very least, I would hope that after the public hearing is closed, a motion is made for the application to be continued since P&Z hasn't even heard the CUP application yet. To hear this application before P&Z has a chance to weigh in on it is really putting the cart before the horse and sends the signal that P&Z is merely a formality. My best wishes to you this evening, Sally Reynolds
