We are writing to you in regards to the Three Corners Ranch subdivision plans. The plan being presented for approval indicates only two exits, one west to Dunwoody and one east to Barclay . The repeated concern of our neighborhood is pedestrian safety due to the fact that Dunwoody Ct does not have sidewalks or lighting and has blind spots. The current bus stop for the Dunwoody subdivision is at the corner of Locust Grove and Dunwoody. Also, Heritage Middle School and Rocky Mountain High School are both located southwest of the development. Therefore, we can expect that not only the kids from Dunwoody but also kids from Three Corners Ranch will use Dunwoody Ct. to walk to bus stop, ride their bikes, and drive to their way to school, as well as parents driving their kids to the bus stop. The school commute puts pedestrians and drivers on a road with no sidewalks for about 1/3 of a mile. In winter, the conditions will be more difficult considering the street is pitch black in the early hours and, in snowy conditions, the rarely-ever-plowed road is slippery. Pedestrians will gravitate more to the center of the road or at least will be reluctant to step off the road to avoid the unevenness of the swale in the snow. If we do the math in regards to the school commute, currently, only half of the Dunwoody pedestrians have to deal with half of the Dunwoody traffic. Yes, there is risk, but we’re talking about pedestrians and traffic from half of the fourteen Dunwoody Ct. households. It should not be surprising that Dunwoody residents have felt relatively safe having pedestrians on the road given such small numbers. Now add Three Corners Ranch to the equation. Now nearly 100% of Three Corners Ranch pedestrians and drivers will traverse ~2/3 the length of Dunwoody (some parents may drive their children to River Valley via Barclay). That is at least 4x the number of pedestrians and vehicles. Now we’re talking about about kids and vehicles from 50+ homes on the road at the same time. We can see that Three Corners Ranch residents, as a whole, are even more affected than Dunwoody residents. We ask your help to get a sidewalk added to Dunwoody Ct to separate pedestrians from traffic or require that traffic be redirected off of Dunwoody onto a road that already has sidewalks.
