Previous to the meeting with the developer we met July 8th as a neighborhood again to brainstorm possible solutions. We shared pictures of other streets in Meridian of improvements that were done. Because we want improvements to be effective to increase safety, we came again to the conclusion that we need to separate vehicle and pedestrian traffic with a sidewalk. When we met with Conger on July 10th, he proposed painting a 4 foot pedestrian line on both sides of the street, have no parking signs on both sides of the street, placing a few street lights and encouraged homeowners to take out landscaping that could be causing blind corners. We are confused how this would increase safety. This would create an even more narrow width (19 to 22 foot wide street for 2 traffic lanes) and "a line of paint" does not provide pedestrians and bikers protection from passing vehicles. We were clear that we needed more to increase safety and asked for sidewalks. He provided us with an email from ACHD stating that the road could not be widened. The email did not say sidewalks could not be added. I had called and talked to a few concrete companies earlier exploring what it would involve to have sidewalks added. They all said that the side swells would need to have water collectors and pipe for drainage and the area built up to the level of the street etc for the concrete. I recieved a detailed estimate and offered it to the developer but they declined and said, "they were going to have to stick with their initial offer" for improvements. We are frustrated that Conger has not improved the safety nor adjusted his development plan and ignored the recommendations from Meridian Planning and Zoning and the past Meridian City Council meeting. From the beginning of this application process we have evaluated the safety of our street in comparison the other available stub streets into this area that are not being utilized. Our concern for safety increases when we consider children from our street and Three Corners Ranch needing to walk to school bus stops located on Locust Grove. We believe that safety is the highest priority for all involved and urge you to make it the priority as well in making this final decision. Thank you Mona Tippets
