Please include these comments as written testimony for the May 16 meeting. Thank you for your your time. Kind regards, Linsy Heiner 1778 E Dunwoody Ct Meridian, ID 83646 801.362.3482 1 May 14, 2019 Dear Planning and Zoning Commission of the City of Meridian, Please vote against the Sweet Land Development’s proposal to use Dunwoody as 1 of 2 entrances into Three Corners Ranch development. Our neighborhood has very serious concerns about this current proposal. Dunwoody is a narrow and winding road with blind corners. From a functional standpoint, Dunwoody is much different from a more traditional neighborhood (with sidewalks, straight roads with perpendicular cross streets & stop signs). In addition, our street is very narrow (27 feet wide in front of my house) and becomes a one lane road when cars are parked on the side. How could this possibly be a good solution for a main entrance street to an entire new neighborhood? This proposal does not make sense and does not seem compliant with established plans. Additionally, the fact that there are designated stub streets that could be used, that have the infrastructure already in place, and that have been designated for future expansion makes such a proposal even less smart. (Our street and neighborhood would be fundamentally changed by such an outlandish proposal.) I’m a mom of four kids ages 3,5,9,12. The children on our street will be placed in extra danger under such a proposal. We do not have sidewalks. Blind corners and a winding road beg for increased speeding (as there are no stop signs or angled turns to naturally slow traffic). The school bus picks up Dunwoody kids on Locust grove (and does not come down our street). There are at least 12 kids that I am aware of that are school age. Our kids walk in the street to visit neighbors or go to the bus. Mayor Tammy’s slogan is: Do the Right. This proposal is not right. This proposal disregards safety, it goes against common sense, it goes against existing city plans, and I urge you to vote it down. It feels like that as small neighborhood, our concerns and our children’s safety is being set aside. In America, we don’t trample on the minority (in this case a relatively small neighborhood). Thomas Jefferson said that the minority must ‘possess their equal rights, which equal law must protect, and to violate would be oppression.’ As community leadership, it’s time to take a stand and do the right. Our neighborhood accepts that the open space will be developed. We all understand that. Meridian is growing and it is to be expected. We do not, however, accept the current proposal. Please see the pictures below from the entrance to Dunwoody turning off of Locust Grove. When cars are parked on either side of the street, it becomes almost impassable. Sincerely, Linsy Heiner 1778 E Dunwoody Ct Meridian, ID 83646 2
