In home daycares with 12 or fewer children typically generate less than 50 trips per day. Each time a parent or employee comes to the address, it is a trip. Each time a parent or employee leaves the address, it is a trip. So, an employee generates 2 trips; and each child generates 4 trips. Of course all of these numbers are based on averages. For comparison, the average trip generation for a single family dwelling is 10 trips per day. Of course this varies based on family size, and age of occupants. ACHD Policy requires developers to submit traffic impact studies for residential subdivisions with over 100 lots (about 1,000 trips per day), and for all commercial uses that generate about 1,000 trips per day. ACHD does not require traffic impact studies for in-home daycares.
