Public Hearing Continued from April 24 & May 15, 2018 for Summertown Subdivision (H-2017-0142) By 745 W Ustick, LLC, Located at 745 W Ustick Road May 15. My name is Calvin N. Tilley, my wife Andrea and I reside at 748 W Claire Dr. in Meridian. We both attended the November 7th City Council Meeting to learn more about how the proposed project at 745 W Ustick Road. We were disappointed with the comments from the Mayor and your fellow council members. Honestly, it felt like their minds have already been made up and the citizen's comments were more just protocol than statements to be considered for serious consideration. Even the agreed upon postponement seems more like a tactic as to make it appear that "serious delegation and discussion was awarded to the matter" and something that can be used as a "we spent considerable time considering this subject". Councilman Ty Palmer even made the comment that he liked the original design that was brought before the council and that the builder has made the changes asked of him. I don't believe it has even crossed Mr Palmer's mind that maybe the "new" changes were not the proper changes that needed to be set for the area in which the builder is looking to build this project. I do not believe 3 story apartments should be being built in established residential communities. 3+ story apartments should be built in areas within Meridian that do not fall in established 1 and 2 story residential areas. Meridian has a large footprint and I just do not understand how the council could even consider this to be acceptable. The second proposed plans from the builder would be a more appropriate fit if the apartments were two stories instead of three. This is already a high density area. We live in a patio home, which makes for a dense population. There are patio homes and townhouses directly across Meridian Road from our community and new patio homes being built just north of those, along with two story apartments on the the west side of Meridian Rd., south of Ustick. It is already so dense within a mile radius of Ustick and Meridian roads! I agree with your perspective on this being a good project but just the wrong location. My personal feeling is that building two story apartments would not only be a better solution for the proposed area that the builder wishes to build. It seems that the City of Meridian is trying to become the "New Boise" and not distinctively Meridian. I understand that there is a need for "high and medium density" construction within Meridian, but it appears that The City is more concerned with other matters than the concerns of the existing homeowners. When the builder said that he looked at Harris Ranch, this seemed misguided since Harris Ranch looks overbuilt (and over priced) and also looks like it has been plucked right out of California. Not only should we not be building Meridian to be Boise 2.0 but we also do not want to be another California. In closing, thank you again for listening to the people's voices, taking our concerns into consideration and voicing an opposition from the beginning. It validated that voting for you was the right vote. The vision that the other council members and the Mayor have for Meridian saddens me. It is inevitable that Meridian will grow and change, but we need to be smart about this for the future of Meridian. Sincere Thanks, Calvin and Andrea Tilley 2
