Susan Littlefield1 Chris Johnson From:Susan Littlefield <susanirene@cableone.net> Sent:Thursday, October 25, 2018 8:32 AM To:City Clerk Cc:mayortammy; Anne Little Roberts; Joe Borton; Ty Palmer; Treg Bernt; Genesis Milam; Luke Cavener Subject:Summertown Subdivision Dear Sir or Madam, I am writing regarding the Summertown Subdivision and wish to once again express my disapproval of this proposed 272 unit apartment complex being built. Adding this many units, with the possibility of including as many as 500 cars is completely unacceptable. The access to this complex would be via one road only - Venable Ave. - which could become a nightmare for emergency services access. Cars typically park along these access roads, potentially blocking emergency vehicles. Traffic is already a frustrating nightmare, especially during peak hours, but during normal hours as well. I cannot imagine the mess that would be created by this potential increase in traffic. In addition, I see that there is currently under consideration a 96-unit apartment at the NW corner of Ustick and Linder, as well as a 60 unit project at the NE corner of Ustick and Linder. This would mean a potential of 428 units within a quarter mile radius. Our roads are NOT equipped to handle the increased traffic; our schools are not equipped to handle the influx of students. While I realize that growth is important to the city, it is more important that the infrastructure be in place first. It is important that there are schools to handle the increase in the number of students. These two things are critical yet neither is currently in place. Please do not approve the Summertown Subdivision. Thank you for your consideration. It is my understanding that these units were originally scheduled to be a 2 mixed commercial/family/55+ subdivision, which would have been more acceptable than the current plan to build a 205-unit apartment complex with parking for 500! A complex this size would definitely negatively impact the already overcrowded schools in our area. The increase in vehicles would add to the already heavily traveled Meridian and Linder Roads which currently have major back up problems during high traffic periods. Neither of those roads are 4-lanes in this area. We purchased our home in the Crossfield Subdivision realizing that the 205-unit apartment complex was scheduled to be built sometime in the future. Of course this would have had some impact on traffic in our area, but the 4-story, 500 vehicle complex you are considering is completely unacceptable for this area, and would dramatically increase traffic in our neighborhood as people find ‘shortcuts’ to reach their apartment. It would also have a negative impact on property values which of course affects each and every property owner in this area. There is already a huge apartment complex being built on McMillan Rd near Meridian Rd. I do not think that we need to add another complex so close to that one, especially given the fact that there are many apartment complexes that already have unrented units.. It is my hope that you do NOT approve this proposed complex. I am not against growth in Meridian, but I feel that the growth must be fair and amenable to everyone. Thank you for your consideration.
