NMID ResponseLaren M. Bailey Conger Management Group 4824 W. Fairview Avenue Boise, ID 83706 i 1503 FIRST STREET SOUTH FAX #208-463-0092 RE: Questions regarding NMID's Finch Lateral- Verado Subdivision Dear Laren: NAMPA, IDAHO 83651-4395 nmid.org OFFICE: Nampa 208-466-7861 SHOP: Nampa 208-466-0663 This letter is in response to questions posed to Nampa & Meridian Irrigation District (NMID) regarding the Finch Lateral, formerly known as the South Slough. Due to confusion of whether this water way was an irrigation delivery facility or waste ditch, NMID renamed it in approximately 1994 to Finch Lateral. Preliminary plans propose relocating a portion of this facility for a future phase of Verado Subdivision. For relocations, it is district policy they be piped, or for larger facilities it must be lined with concrete; such as the Ridenbaugh Canal. As you are probably aware, the Finch Lateral is piped in several locations along this waterway. The most notable, through the City of Meridians Kleiner Park to the Regency at River Valley development and continuing to Eagle Road. If this facility remains in the same location, set in a park or pathway setting, NMID will require the facility be fenced off from the public to prevent the hazard of drowning. The same policy was followed in the previous phases of the Verado Subdivision for the pedestrian pathway along this same facility. The question of the possibility of a pedestrian bridge over this facility would have to meet all current district requirements and be covered under the Master Pathway Agreement, with the City of Meridian. The bridge must be fully enclosed and be designed to not hinder the district's maintenance activities. Typically pedestrian traffic is directed to the road crossings and sidewalks rather than pedestrian bridges. If you should have any further questions regarding this letter, please feel free to give me a call. Sincerely, Gre G.
